The New Energy Vehicle International Forum is one of the most important events in the field of NEW, and is held every March in Shanghai. This year the Forum takes “Promotion of commercialization development of new energy vehicles” as the theme, aiming to build the most influential and forward-looking exchange platform for the global NEV participants with the development of China’s NEV industry.
China’s new energy vehicle(NEV) development takes the lead in the world. According to the published data, the sales volume of NEV exceeds 500,000 in China in 2016, with a year-on-year growth rate of over 50%, and the NEV ownership is close to 1 million. China’s annual sales volume of NEV accounted for more than 40% of the global sales volume, and China’s total ownership of NEV also keeps ahead in the world. It can be predicted that it’s a very promising prospect in the development of NEV in China. And undoubtedly, lightweight has become the future trend of new energy vehicles.

VAMA and GONVVAMA attended the forum, VAMA CMO Jurgen Cobbaut and GONVVAMA CTO Yannick Yin jointly gave a speech on "New Steel Grades for Lighter and Safer Car Body Structures”, presented VAMA and GONVVAMA advanced automotive steel products and solutions regarding automotive lightweighting.
Jurgen Cobbaut, VAMA CMO, introduced how VAMA and GONVVAMA bring ArcelorMittal advanced global steel solutions and technologies to China, make it available to the local market. He also presented Arcelormittal emerging innovations for automotive steel products including the 2nd generation of Al-Si coated Usibor®2000 and Ductibor®1000, the 3rd generation AHSS/UHSS for cold stamping Fortiform®/HF and Fortiform®S/HSHF, focusing on their outstanding performance in lightweight car body and safety of the above outstanding performance.
GONVVAMA CTO Yannick Yin introduced S-in motion® solutions for mid-size sedan & SUV to the audiences. The utilization of advanced high strength steel products can achieve car body lightweighting, impact safety performance improvement at very low cost difference. In addition, applications of laser welding blanks on car body structure members such as front rail, door ring, B pillar were also displayed. The application of laser welded blanks can make car body structures meet performance requirements of various parts, reduce weight, improve material utilization, optimize costs, and improve safety performance at the same time.
